What is Propolis used for?

What is Propolis?

Honey bees collect a resin from trees and plants. They mix wax, pollen and their own saliva with the resin to produce propolis. Propolis is a substance produced by honey bees in order to plug unecessary holes (halting predators) and to stop infection of the bee hive.

Various studies have been conducted in order to reveal any potential health benefits of Propolis. One such study revealed the potential benefits of propolis cream as a treatment for burns. Apparently the cream achieved greater results with second degree burns victims than the current health department recommended medicine.

In addition to this, other benefits recorded in separate studies were the Propolis’ anti-inflammatory abilities. It was also noted as having a positive effect on the immune system by increasing immune responses within its users.

Propolis was also shown to be an antioxidant rich compound.  Not only was it shown to have anti bacterial properties but also, anti inflammatory and anti fungal properties too.
